Introduction to the Department

The Master’s in Global Physiotherapy (M.G.P.T.) is a program that interacts with various countries such as the United States, Australia, and New Zealand in line with the global curriculum based on the latest clinical reasoning and evidence-based practice.
Through Namseoul University International Graduate School, the M.G.P.T. program is operated so that students can enter various directions, including overseas expansion.

Characteristics and advantages of each department

  • Uses world of physical therapy curriculum, which includes major operational concepts based on clinical reasoning and evidenced-based practice.
  • Facilities are equipped with various research equipment, and the equipment of the best physical therapy department in Korea. These facilities and equipment can help to strengthen research capabilities and completes clinical practice through agreements and exchanges with various rehabilitation-related companies such as hospitals.
  • Anyone who has completed their bachelor’s degree is eligible to apply for the M.G.P.T. department regardless of their undergraduate major (i.e., undergraduate major does not have to be related to physiotherapy).
  • After graduation, immigration to the U.S. and British commonwealth nations and successful entry into the health care field are possible.
  • Through the use of educational programs developed in advanced countries in physical therapy such as the United States, Australia, and New Zealand, the quality of education is top-notch.
  • Research exchanges are conducted in connection with overseas physical therapy graduate schools and departments, which result in increased clinical and English language skills to help nurture global talent.
  • Students with a GPA of 3.0 or higher are awarded an academic scholarship that covers 25% of their tuition.

Career Path After Graduation

An M.G.P.T. degree will provide opportunities to work in various areas related to healthcare, such as:International physical therapists Rehabilitation treatment education experts Healthcare experts Exercise prescriptions

Curriculum

  • Introduction to Physiotherapy

This course gives a general introduction to the study of Physical Therapy. The course covers related studies necessary for physical therapy, diagnoses, and evaluation of physical therapy, kinds of intervention by the physical therapist as well as diseases and conditions that can be treated by the physical therapist.

  • Human Anatomy and Physiology 1

Human anatomy and Physiology 1 is a course in which one studies structure, shape and position of the trunk and extremity as well as study their function and interaction. The department of Physical Therapy provides students theoretical lectures about the structures and functions of the human body and to give them a better understanding about various and inclusive anatomy using body models.

  • Clinical Decision Making

This unit is to provide an introduction to the application of foundation physiotherapy skills within a clinical decision making. Students will interview patients and record a comprehensive history of their clinical conditions, and treatment techniques under direction and participate in the planning and decision-making processes.

  • Clinical Kinesiology

Clinical kinesiology is the fundamental study of exercise treatment. Clinical kinesiology introduces neuromuscular physiology, joint kinesiology, mechanical acts of the muscles, physiological activations between muscles and neuroses, regional exercise analyses, interactions between muscles and joints. This course can be applied in the treatment of patients in clinics.

  • Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy 1

Encompasses advanced study in assessment of musculoskeletal dysfunction and manual, sports and manipulative physiotherapy rehabilitation methods. Evaluates current knowledge and practices of musculoskeletal therapy, integration of the scientific and clinical research foundation and alternative areas for clinical and scientific research.

  • Cardiopulmonary Physiotherapy

Builds an advanced understanding of the cardiopulmonary physiotherapy.Comprehensive management for people with cardiopulmonary disorders. Evaluates current knowledge and practices of cardiopulmonary therapy, integration of the scientific and clinical research foundation and alternative areas for clinical and scientific research.

  • Neurological Physiotherapy

Builds an advanced understanding of the neuromuscular control of movement. Develops comprehensive management for people with neurological disorders.

  • Physical Examination and Practice

This course provides practical training during a physical examination. It is designed to teach student how to check and find the patient’s problems using physical therapy examination. To attain this end, the basic concept of the medical examination, physical examination and understanding of human anatomy, diagnostics, measurement and evaluation of the course are required. Selects and applies principles of functional assessment, exercise prescription.

  • Movement Function and Rehabilitation

Develops understanding of neuromuscular control of movement and associated movement on upper & lower quartile. Selects and applies principles of assessment and rehabilitation to manage movement disorders and altered function. Develops an understanding of the use of exercise as a means of health promotion, injury prevention and rehabilitation.

  • Neuroscience and Neurodevelopment

This unit provides an understanding of the fundamental concepts of nervous system organization and function. The physiological component introduces students to mechanisms of signal generation and transmission, basic mechanisms of spinal reflexes, the function of the somatosensory and autonomic nervous system and motor pathways.

  • Clinical Measurement and Evaluation

This unit of study introduce students to the principles and practice of clinical assessment involving anatomical, kinesiological and physiological factors. And this study examines the measurement of normal movement using methods that are suitable for clinical application. A short module on surface anatomy is included in this unit of study. In addition, students will be assigned to clinical sites and will undertake structured learning tasks which apply to principles taught in this unit of study.

  • Exercise Physiology

The aim of this unit is to provide students with a broad understanding of the physiological responses and adaptations to physical activity and inactivity. The unit has a primary focus on the application of exercise as both a treatment modality and a tool in rehabilitation. The unit describes the basic metabolic, cardiovascular, respiratory, thermoregulatory and endocrine responses and adaptations to exercise training in healthy, asymptomatic individuals (children, adults and the elderly).

  • Human Anatomy and Physiology

Human anatomy and Physiology 2 is a course that includes structure, shape and position of the lumbar, pelvis and lower extremity, as well as the study of its various functions and interactions. The department of physiotherapy provides students theoretical lectures about the structures and functions of the human body and to give them a better understanding about various and inclusive anatomy using body models.

  • Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy 2

Encompasses advanced study in assessment of musculoskeletal dysfunction and manual, sports and manipulative physiotherapy rehabilitation methods. Evaluates current knowledge and practices of musculoskeletal therapy, integration of the scientific and clinical research foundation and alternative areas for clinical and scientific research.
