Introduction

The Department of Coaching Studies aimed at nurturing coaching experts deals with all aspects of coaching including coaching program development and diagnosis and strives to effectively integrated theoretical aspects and practical aspects of the discipline. In addition to developing coaching capabilities, students study theories and carry out research for the purpose of gaining an in-depth understanding of coaching studies and gaining the qualifications and competencies as a coaching expert.

Educational Objectives

  • Cultivate the fundamental qualifications as a coaching expert based on intensive education on theoretical perspectives, history, philosophical background, etc. in relation to coaching
  • Offer dynamic programs by developing theories based on hands-on experiences and promoting field application of theories
  • Nurture professional coaches with comprehensive knowledge and skills by assigning professors and mentors to small groups for more focused learning
  • Nurture experts with essential competencies by establishing a strategic system to cultivate coaches, conducting domestic and international cases studies, benchmarking global coaching curricula, diagnosing and evaluating coaching skills, giving lectures and obtaining feedback, applying coaching methods, controlling coaching processes, and cultivate individual and team coaching and mentoring skills through practice
  • Equip students with the qualifications of a researcher so that they can help make coaching studies more systematic and scientific

Program Characteristics

  • 1Instructions by the Head Professor Do Mi-hyang (President of the Korean Coaching Society and KMC, KPC and internationally certified coach), one of the leading coaching experts in the country
  • 2A 2-year (4-term) program: the thesis can be substituted with course credits
  • 3Weekly classes on Saturdays or biweekly (twice a week) night classes on weekdays
  • 4After graduating from the master’s degree program, students are automatically certified as coaches by the Korea Coach Association (KCA) (without examination) and acknowledged to have completed an 80-hour education program (support for KCP examination)
  • 5Support provided for graduates wishing to acquire professional coach qualification certificates from the Koran Coaching Society (Class II Coach, Class I Coach (KCA 1 & 2), Coaching Instructor (KCL), Coaching Professional (KCM)) or to work as a coaching instructor or professional coach
  • 6Courses on the levels 1 to 5 in the Co-Active Coaching Program, a certification program of the International Coaching Federation, established in collaboration with the Korean Coaching Center (course credits recognized; 50% of the additional expenses borne by the student) and support provided for graduates wishing to acquire IFC coaching certifications (ACC, PCC)
