Introduction

The Department of Dental Hygiene aims to nurture students into leading dental hygienists who will serve and contribute to the local community based on the spirit of Christianity and democratic education rooted in the founding philosophy of NSU centering of truth and freedom. By bringing forth competent human resources including educators and researchers to contribute to the prevention of oral diseases and the promotion of public oral health in the local community and clinical settings, we will play a pivotal role in improving public oral health and promoting the development of dental hygiene.

  • Nurture dental hygienists who demonstrate their competencies as dental hygiene educators and researchers, oral health professionals, and clinical experts on dental hygiene with exceptional knowledge and skills

Program Characteristics

  • 1Establishment of a world-class dental hygiene education and research system for the purpose of running a curriculum based on the dental hygiene process applied as a standard for dental hygiene education and practice in the United States and Canada
  • 2Assisting students in developing lecture skills and good character as educators through intensive practice
  • 3Assisting graduates (master’s degree of higher) in establishing research institutes by benchmarking related research institutes and conducting joint research through cooperation with related research institutes
  • 4Full-time professors directly responsible for managing the credits and thesis/dissertation preparation of their students and strengthening ties with students through ongoing career and employment counseling
  • 5Creating an autonomous research environment by promoting academic activities and exchanges with related organizations
  • 6Promoting the understanding of the course content through case discussions
  • 7Providing education centering on empirical research in laboratory facilities equipped with the latest equipment
