Introduction

  • Benefits provided to students in the Department of Korean Language:
    • Students who graduated from the undergraduate program and credit bank system of NSU are exempt from paying admission fees
    • Graduate students can apply for dormitory rooms
    • Discounts on fees charged for using school facilities such as the gym
  • Target:
    • Anyone who needs to learn Korean such as marriage immigrant women and children from multicultural families
  • Classes:
    • Weekly classes on Saturdays or biweekly (twice a week) night classes on weekdays (subject to change)

Students get to practice teaching Korean to foreign students studying at the Institute of International Culture & Exchange, get hired to teach at the Institute of International Culture & Exchange as an instructor after graduation, or are given bonus points when selecting instructors to be discharged oversea

  • The Department of Korean Language in the Graduate School was established with the aim of cultivating excellent Korean language teachers capable of teaching foreigners at home and abroad
  • Anyone with a bachelor’s degree can apply regardless of major (even those who obtained their degree through the credit bank system and foreigners)
  • Impart the knowledge and skills necessary to provide Korean language education through Korean language studies, theories on Korean language education as a foreign language, and practical training in accordance with the Framework Act on Korean Language
  • Students learn communication pedagogy applicable in an educational setting by practicing teaching the Korean language to foreign learners at the Institute of International Culture & Exchange operating under NSU
  • Students practice teaching Korean at Beijing NSU ICC, Northeastern NSU ICC, 단현 NSU ICC, Auckland NSU ICC, etc.
  • Bonus points are awarded to those who have completed the program when selecting lecturers for the NSU Institute of International Culture & Exchange or dispatching lecturers to sister universities.

  • Career Paths & Employment Opportunities: Graduates can work as a Korean language teacher at domestic and overseas universities or affiliated institutions or as Korean language teachers at domestic and international elementary, middle and high schools offering Korean language classes as a foreign language, domestic or foreign government-funded institutions teaching Korean at home and abroad (e.g. King Sejong Institute, etc.), multicultural family support centers, foreign workers support centers, organizations operating social integration programs, Korean companies that have set up offices/factories abroad, or private academies at home and abroad, etc., or work for Korean dissemination projects such as KOICA activities, volunteer activities, and overseas missions
