Introduction

The Department of Glass Art is the center of glass art that became the first in Korea to offer master’s and doctoral degree programs in the field, while working together with world-renowned artists.

The Department of Glass Art fosters enterprising artists who will lead the field of modern glass art in the 21st century by voluntarily conducting research, discovering originality and engaging in philosophical thinking. This is to cultivate original artists and industrial designers with creative ideas based on new technology development and research and the ability to apply advanced techniques acquired in professional glass art studio practice courses centering on glass blowing, casting, flame working, and cold working.

Students are required to have creative curiosity and an understanding of the artistic value of materials in addition to the physical characteristics of glass. Students are trained into leaders in the field of art based on the convergence of glass studies and an understanding of philosophical and aesthetic value and the humanities so that they can serve as world-class artists and proactive professionals demanded by our society. The department is equipped with a large array of undergraduate-level equipment that cannot be found in other universities and is creating an environment where more advanced works can be produced. Currently, the Department of Glass Art offers Korea’s first master’s and doctoral degree programs in glass art and is serving as the undisputed center of glass art in the country.
