DEPARTMENT OF INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS

TWith the rapid integration of global markets, companies are facing new opportunities and actively pursuing global business activities. International business is a popular field among students because it offers the opportunity to build a career in a worldwide marketplace.

Namseoul University International Graduate School’s Master of Arts in International Business (M.I.B.) Program aims to prepare international students for careers in the global business environment. The program focuses on the complexities of global business, including the legal, economic, and political aspects of doing business across borders. Students will develop a deep understanding of trade policies, regulations, and practices, as well as cultural, social, and ethical issues that arise in global business.

In the M.I.B. Program, students will gain the skills and knowledge necessary to succeed in a variety of global business careers, including trade policy development, import and export management, international marketing, and global supply chain management. The program also offers a wide range of courses in areas of international business, including business, management, trade, international marketing, and operations management.

OBJECTIVES

The M.I.B. Program utilizes the technology of the Fourth Industrial Revolution to enable free international trade of goods, cross the boundaries between virtual and real world, break down the borders of assets, create investment and business opportunities, and solve various management problems of our future society. A wide range of courses are offered including business, management, trade, marketing, and operations management. By studying a variety of these practical courses, students can expand their learning of theory, research methods, and practice in related fields from an international perspective as well as the domestic Korean businesses.

PROGRAM FEATURES

As international business focuses on conducting business beyond the borders of a single country, it is very much a necessary and highly demanded field, and many companies have expanded their business into global markets. To operate businesses on an international level, talent is needed and must be nurtured. The M.I.B. Program provides the management and economic knowledge necessary for a company to succeed by nurturing the talent needed to meet the demands of these companies.

CAREERS AFTER GRADUATION

After completing the M.I.B. Program, graduates have the opportunity to work in international companies through a variety of career opportunities including but not limited to: business development manager, product manager, economist, trade manager, customs officer, logistics manager, salesperson, investment analyst, and M&A specialist. They can also seek employment in general corporations, banks, trading companies, securities firms, general finance companies, insurance companies, consulting firms, and accounting firms.

National and international are becoming more globalized with each passing day, and multinational corporations have a great influence on the development of world management. Many domestic companies are pursuing global management and activities to enter the competitive global market. The M.I.B. Program provides students with the skills and problem-solving abilities that companies can utilize in the global marketplace. The advantages of the major are that students will have a good understanding of the global economy and management phenomena, and they will have the observational skills to prepare for a globalized society. In addition, they can take a variety of courses such as management, economics, marketing, trade, finance, accounting, and strategy.

  • International Business Communication

    The course is experience-based, with students learning the interpersonal and organizational communication skills they need to be successful in global business settings. Using a variety of teaching methodologies, including regional and country studies, visual aids, case studies, self-assessment and experiential activities, the course will focus on intercultural communication, managing culture shock, global business etiquette, negotiating in an international setting, and repatriation.

  • Creativity and Innovation in International Business

    Creativity and innovation are the keystones in international business. In this course students will take an interdisciplinary view of creativity and innovation and the role both processes play in developing economic, social, and cultural institutions. This course focuses on the development of relationships and networks that cultivate creativity.

  • International Economics

    In this course, students will study of all the various economic connections between countries, and the global economics system. It will explain the flows of goods, money, and people between countries.

  • International Trade and Logistics

    This course will help students to understand logistical aspects of international trade and the interactions between them. The course starts with an overview of international trade and covers topics such as the function of international trade, the major international freight flows, trade blocks and trade unions, and the organizational infrastructure of international trade.

  • Marketing Management

    This course focuses on analyzing market trends, consumer behavior, and competitive landscapes. Students will learn how to conduct market research, assess market opportunities, and identify potential threats, which provide valuable insights to businesses.

  • International Marketing

    Through this course, students will be able see how international marketing opens up opportunities for businesses to expand into new markets, diversify their customer base, and reduce dependency on a single market. Students who take this course are better prepared to help organizations develop and execute market entry strategies, including exporting, licensing, franchising, joint ventures, and foreign direct investment.

  • Business Strategy

    Business strategy education equips students with the skills and knowledge needed to make informed and strategic decisions. This course teaches them how to assess complex situations, identify opportunities and threats, and develop plans that align with an organization's goals.

  • Electronic Commerce

    Electronic commerce places a strong emphasis on understanding and meeting customer needs in the digital realm. In this course, students learn about user experience (UX) design, customer journey mapping, and online customer behavior, which are applicable to various industries.

  • Marketing Research

    Marketing research is essential for designing and implementing effective marketing strategies. In this course, students learn how to segment markets, target specific customer groups, and position products or services in ways that resonate with consumers, ultimately leading to more successful marketing campaigns.

  • Principles of Marketing

    The principles of marketing are foundational concepts and guidelines that serve as the basis for understanding and practicing marketing effectively. This course will teach students how these principles provide a framework for businesses and organizations to develop and execute successful marketing strategies.

  • Business Research Methods

    Business research methods are crucial in a curriculum because they provide students with essential skills and knowledge for data-driven decision-making, problem-solving, and innovation. This course will teach students the skills which are highly valuable in the business world and contribute to the success of organizations and the professional growth of graduates.

  • Global Negotiation Strategy

    As negotiations take place on a daily basis, this course focuses on teaching students to understand various negotiation cases and strategies, corporate M&A negotiations, global negotiations.

  • Global Trade Management

    This course aims to have students gain better understanding about the flow of information, money, and goods in the global trade supply chain, which includes byers, sellers, and intermediaries including customs, banks, and freight forwarders. Students will also learn about different languages, time zones, currencies, and transportation in global trade management compared to domestic trade management.

  • Trade Marketing

    As trade marketing emphasizes 2D2P’s (Distribution, Display, Price, Promotion), this course focuses on promoting products and services to intermediaries such as retailers, wholesalers, and distributors. Through this course, students will learn how to make products and services more attractive to these intermediaries for sale and distribution.

  • International Trade and WTO

    Through this course, students will understand the basic concepts of international trade, including the basic theories of international trade and import and export procedures. In addition, they will learn about the functions of the World Trade Organization and its important role in the global trade market.

  • International Business

    International business is a subject that studies the necessary know-how for the process of a company becoming global. Through this course, students can learn professionally about the international trade environment and learn about the methods and procedures for companies to enter overseas markets. Students will learn strategies for companies that have entered overseas markets to successfully carry out business activities.

  • International Marketing Management

    As times change to internationalization, more and more companies are becoming increasingly interested in international marketing. The international marketing management course helps students recognize problems in overseas markets, establish segmentation strategies, and find solutions to problems. International marketing management focuses on the basic concepts, theories, and strategies of marketing.

  • Theory of International Trade

    In this day and age, it is impossible to live without trade, and international trade has become an important part of most countries. Through this course, students will learn the concepts, theories, policies, and business strategies for exchanging goods and services between two people or organizations through international trade.

  • Global Leadership Development

    Understanding and practicing the concept of leadership will help students develop their communication and decision-making skills so they can grow into global leaders in this era of globalization. Classes are comprised on team work based on deriving leadership abilities by examining the status of leaders in areas such as business, humanities, and sociology.

  • Global Leadership

    Leadership theories, principles, and techniques will be studied by developing judgment and empathy skills to become a competent leader. Emergent leadership, leadership theory, the role of a leader in the global era, discussions on understanding of diversity and the capabilities of a global leader that can be utilized in successful communication will be focused on throughout in the course.
